3.8 points. 2238 reviews. This assessment of the beach of the Central Embankment was left by residents and guests of Mariupol on the Google Maps service. Our team started studying the competition object not from the history of its origin, but from today's reality, from how the residents of Mariupol perceive it: what they like and what they would like to change. In recent years, the Central Embankment has lost its appeal as a place of family recreation. Our task is to return to this territory the former glory of the favorite place of rest of citizens and, at the same time, to create a new tourist magnet. Our goal is to make sure that the Central Embankment always has a score of 5.0.
Architectural concept of reconstruction of the Central embankment of Mariupol, Ukraine

Water. Land. Fire. Air.
We saw Mariupol as 4 elements that in synergy with each other give birth to this city. Conventionally dividing the entire Central Embankment into four elements, we endowed each of them with characteristic features, added a local link to the city. You will not see random elements in our project - each of them is filled with content and ideas that are close to every resident of the city.
Fire. The fire melts the metal, which feeds Mariupol like blood. We want to create a metaphorical artery of the city, a continuous "stream" of natural rolled metal, directed everywhere in this area. With each passing year, the artery will gain even more charm, gradually approaching its truly natural, reddish-brown color, emphasizing the historical name of this part of the waterfront - brown beach.
The artery will start on a small area adjacent to the parking lot of the existing restaurant, which creates an ideal place for events and festivals, and the organization of a food court.
Following the flow, you come to two pyramids: the amphitheater and the information center of the entire Central Embankment. These pyramids are another symbol of Mariupol. From almost every point of the embankment you can see the port heaps, which create a unique man-made relief and panorama of the city. The third symbolic peak is an observation deck on the pier.
Wrapping around the stylized mountains, the stream of molten metal reaches a dry fountain, where it "cools" and begins to take shape, ending at the end of the pier with the logo of Mariupol - a combination of an anchor and a bowl for casting metal.
The logo of the city will be softly illuminated, which will make it a business card of the embankment at any time of the day.
This part of the embankment is the only one that has no access to water. Therefore, we decided to make this whole area descending: a multi-level shore that is "immersed" in water. We believe that contact with water is extremely important, so we will create a wooden and concrete descent especially for those who do not have access to the sea from the sandy part of the shore.
In front of the amphitheater we will build a floating stage for various events. And so that it does not remain empty during the holiday season, we will fill it with trees that will create a completely unusual sea view and a cozy place for yoga and outdoor training in their shade.
And numerous areas with sun loungers, benches and wooden parapets allow you to watch the sunset and dawn over the sea in comfort.
The water is the area with the largest area of sandy beach, so we took it for a full beach holiday, added playgrounds for sports and games. Water is not just a conditional element here, it is everywhere: it is the Sea of Azov, which washes the city, it is the river Kalmius, which divides the city into left and right banks.
The sea gave the city a transport artery, making Mariupol the largest port city in eastern Ukraine. The river connected Mariupol with other cities of Donbass.
Water is life, it is development, it is the most favorite childhood memories. The first children's impressions of the huge, as endless as the sky, the sea, we laid the foundation for the concept of a modernized bridge over the railways. We chose a structural wave for him, which creates a completely unusual, really interesting vantage point: thanks to the mirror surface of the fence, all you see is just the sea and the sky. Nothing superfluous, nothing extraneous.
The outside of the bridge does not just have the contour of the wave. This is a direct reference to the main sea symbol - a seagull that "floats" over a stream of water that cuts the beach like a river and flows into the sea.
We have given a special place to the fauna of this region, in particular the endangered species listed in the Red Book of Ukraine. They are reproduced in the form of large concrete sculptures, which should draw people's attention to the environmental pain of the region.
Air. Air is the element of change. In recent years, many difficult events have taken place in the lives of the city and its inhabitants, which will forever remain in their memory. However, time coincides and the wind replaces the bad - faith in the best, thirst for life and development.
This part of the promenade has the longest line of sandy beach - about 750 meters, so it needs zoning for better navigation and organization of the entrance with the distribution of human flow.
We divided the Air zone into three streams, highlighting each of them in a separate color. The entrance groups of each part of the stream will have a navigation sign with color and name, as well as a structure of metal and wood, decorated with elastic fabrics that will sway from the slightest gust of wind. The whimsical shapes that the wind will create will become a really interesting interactive photo area.
The wooden box, painted in the color of the entrance group, will house a technical room and public services. This is the only sandy area on the waterfront where we plan to build a bike path to turn it from a transit route into a panoramic attraction.
You can ride on it if you go off the main bike path on the other side of the seaside boulevard.
Stylistically, this area turned out light and simple as the wind.
